What to do if you are in a car accident?
- Call 911. Request Police, Fire Department, and Ambulance assistance if necessary.
- Assess situation and make sure you are out of harm’s way and safe.
- Exchange information with all Drivers involved in accident. (For convenience, use cell phone to take pictures)
- Name, address, phone number, driver’s license number.
- Insurance Company and Policy number. (Make sure current Policy info and check expiration date)
- License Plate number and description for all vehicles.
- Get the names, phone numbers and all contact information for all witnesses.
- If Police respond, be sure to request an exchange of information form.
- DO NOT admit fault at the scene, and only discuss details of the accident with Police.
- Take a lot of PICTURES of all vehicles and location of accident area.
- NEVER state you are not injured at the scene, as symptoms may not be present immediately.
- If injured, seek medical attention as soon as practical.
- DO NOT give a recorded statement to any Insurance company involved until you seek legal advice.
